Well, here we are. Another year. Another opportunity to set goals. Another chance to advance our lives. As a person who has motivated thousands of people worldwide one thing I know for sure and this is going to hurt, but most people do not achieve their goals. It is not due to a lack of motivation, resolve and expectations–it is a result of execution and operating in bite sized pieces. We live in a world that promotes a lot of words and phrases such as, “Think Big”, “Go For The Dream”, “Faith To Move Mountains”, etc. The reality of it is as I have found out personally and can share without reservation is–we forget about one thing. That thing is called life. The care for family, the responsibility of helping others, paying the bills etc, can quickly get in the way. One course disruption due to the trauma of a situation can take a person way off their goal quest. Most of us who have not achieved goals in our lives-have been stifled by a routine, habitual way of operating or a life circumstance. With that being said, not achieving a goal is not due to your lack of embracing motivational phrases or beliefs, it is often programmed mindsets of traumatic situations that take us off course. The problem is we stay of course and the new year becomes a way of trying to get back up on the saddle–and try again.
If I were to end it here, chances are you would say, “He is not to good of a motivational coach, speaker, or anything!” If I ended it with the first paragraph only–I would agree! But that was laying a foundation for where I am going with this. There is hope, because many people have achieved their goals-despite obstacles. People like Mother Theresa, though making a vow of poverty herself, won a nobel peace prize and changed the world as we know it as a result of having a singular goal of rescuing the poor-and bring global awareness to the problem. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Michael Dell built 3 of the largest companies in the world, even tough all three are college dropouts-because of their singular focus on advancing technology. One thing Mother Theresa and these 3 gentleman have in common is that they were focused on a specific goal. With this goal came obstacles, life circumstances and a plethora of personal challenges. What I believe these people did that most of us do not do-is when the distractions came their way–they stayed with the goal. They did not get bumped off course. They may have fallen off of the horse, but they did not stay there. Goal achievers are the people the world pays attention to. Many of us have greatness in us but we do not have focus. I have struggled with this myself and as a result-have built multiple accountability systems recently to assure I do not fall of and stay off in my quest to help others.
Knowing this–I started a facebook private group called “Goals 52.” The purpose of this group is not for everyone to share all of their goals with everyone–but to have a place of accountability to go to every week to make sure you stay on task. A place of motivation for when life tries to drag you away from your goals. No matter if it is a big–or small goal. Every week (Hold me accountable) I will be posting videos, research, scriptures and information regarding achievement of goals. From time to time–I will be offering Facebook live to give advice. On occassion, I will ask some of you to contribute. Another reason for this group is to help you keep your goal at bite sized pieces. The old question that we all know the answer to is, “How do eat an elephant?.” Answer, “One bite at a time!.” Lastly, the primary purpose of this group is to help all of us become focused. Focus is truly the key to success. Most people who mentor me tell me upfront “I only have X amount of time to chat.” Why is this? They are focused. They are busy fulfilling purpose. I remember a conversation I had once with my hero Dr Myles Munroe. He had about 20 minutes time and that is all he gave me! Was I upset about this–no way! I desired to be more like him! I am concerned about people having too much time!! The question becomes, “Why are they so open time wise?” Focused people have priorities and objectives. They are on a mission–and you should be as well.
This Blog Post is an example of my desire to be more focused. As much as I would like to be a Podcaster, Youtuber, etc, I am a much better writer. I do all of those things but writing is a better tool for me–based upon my gifting. I have written 8 books and my 9th is on it’s way. Being a goal achiever means using the gifts you have–in order to achieve the outcomes you desire. Don’t try to become something you are not. Use what you have–to get what you want!
So we have 52 weeks. Are you willing to become a goal achiever with me or by September will you be longing for January to come just to reset? You and I have to say “Enough is Enough.” Join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/Goals52 to get started. Don’t lose your focus this year. Let get it! Lets make 2019 a year of celebration for the goals we achieved in 2018!!!!
